Iowa mom arrested for post threatening shooting at son's school

An Iowa woman, Teri Pallat is now facing criminal charges for posting a status on Facebook that threatened a school shooting because kids were bullying her 15-year-old son. She was arrested Monday and charged for making a "terroristic threat" and also harassment for allegedly warning school administrators that they would be to blame if her son shot up Lewis Central High School, where he was a sophomore. According to Council Bluffs police, the post read: "And they asked why do people shoot up schools, well this is exactly why and when our son does it cause I know he will have nobody to blame but the administration and I promise everyone he will only get the ones that caused this. He is an excellent marks men." This comes only days after the shooting in a suburban Denver, Colorado high school on Friday. Teri Pallat is now out on bond and was asked about this said it was over blown and shes just an everyday person. The school also stated it has never had a shooting and wants to keep it that way.

South Carolina sheriff refuses to lower flag for Mandela

 The U.S. flag flew high outside Pickens County sheriff's office in South Carolina on Monday. This was in defiance of an order from President Barack Obama to lower all flags in memory of the South African leader Nelson Mandela, who just recently pasted. Sheriff Rick Clark said he believed the lowering of the flag to half-staff was a tribute that should be reserved for U.S. citizens."To show a sign of respect for what Nelson Mandela's done, I have no problem with lowering it in South Africa, in their country," he told a local television station."But in our country, it should be the people, in my opinion, who have sacrificed for our country." On Friday, the sheriff's office flag flew at half-staff in honor of a South Carolina law enforcement officer who was killed in the line of duty.It then remained lowered through Pearl Harbor Day on Saturday until Monday when it was then raised again. The sheriff's office then said Clark would have no further comment beyond what he had already told a local TV reporter.

Four killed in Tulsa drug house

Four people were killed and one wounded in a Tulsa, Oklahoma drug house on Saturday. Police responded to call at around 7:15 pm to a call reporting a multiple shooting at a house. Where they found two people shot to death and three wounded said the Tulsa Police Department. The people who were killed were three women 35, 46, and 54 year-old and also a 34 year-old man. The police know that there has been methamphetamine dealt and used at the house recently. They also believe this murder was not a random act, but also saying robbery was not the motive. They also said one shooter was responsible for the killings and that there have been no suspects identified.

New York man dies during freedive competition in Bahamas

A record-holding diver died during a freediving competition in the Bahamas on Sunday. In what officials have said is the first fatality in the sport's 21 years of official competition. American diver Nicholas Mevoli, a 32 year-old of Brooklyn, New York is the victim, was conscious when he surfaced from his 72-meter (236-foot) dive. Which is done without oxygen or fins, but he then blacked out about 30 seconds later, according to the statement by Vertical Blue, which are the ones who ran the freediving event in the Bahamas. His death appears connected to lung damage suffered during the dive. This also marks the first time a competitor has ever died during an officially sanctioned event in 21 years of more than 35,000 competitive dives.There were signs of trouble almost immediately as he surfaced, as the 32-year-old's eyes were blank and his words incoherent, the Times reported. He was then dragged onto a nearby platform and began vomiting blood into the sea, the Times reported. "He lost consciousness, and in spite of great efforts by the doctor and paramedic on site, failed to recover after reaching the local hospital," the AIDA statement said. "Nick appears to have suffered from a depth-related injury to his lungs."Mevoli, who had set a freediving record shortly after taking up the sport competitively in 2012, was described by AIDA as an "extraordinary talent."The competition was halted after his death then.

White candidate pretends to be black to win election

Dave Wilson is a white, but to win an election to get a seat on the Houston Community College Board of Trustees in a district that has mostly African-American voters, Wilson a Republican, led these voter to believe he was black.Hes campaign was a poster with smiling black faces accompanied by a text saying "Please vote for our friend and neighbor Dave Wilson".Another text said he was endorsed by Ron Wilson. a popular black former state representative. But the Ron Wilson who actually endorsed him was Dave's cousin Ron, not the former state representative. On Tuesday defeated Bruce Austin, who is a 24 year-old African-American by just 26 votes. Austin called Wilson's tactics disgusting, "I don't think it's good for both democracy and the whole concept of fair play," he also went on to say. "This is one of the few times a white guy has pretended to be a black guy and fooled black people." But Wilson, who won a six-year term on the nine-member board, is unapologetic about any of it."Every time a politician talks, he's out there deceiving voters," Wilson said. Austin also did say he would seek a recount of the votes.

Toronto mayor admits to smoking crack

The Mayor of Toronto, Rob Ford said he smoked crack "probably a year ago" when he was in a "drunken stupor". He admits this months after being accused of all this during which he has refused to step down. The allegations that he had been caught on video smoking crack camp up in May. Ford initially insisted the video didn't exist and avoided the questions about whether he had ever smoked crack. He was finally forced to backtrack after police said recently they had obtained a copy of the video, which still has not been released publicly. He was quoted saying "Yes, I have smoked crack cocaine," he told reporters outside his office. "There have been times when I've been in a drunken stupor. That's why I want to see the tape. I want everyone in the city to see this tape. I don't even recall there being a tape or video. I want to see the state that I was in." He had previously apologized for his excessive drinking and other mistakes but will still not step down even with all the pressure he has of people saying he should. He had been avoiding the questions about if he had ever smoked crack until now.

Florida City Bans guns for neighborhood watch volunteers

Sanford, Florida the city where George Zimmerman shot and killed unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin are changing the rules of how civilians can patrol so they can prevent anything like that ever happening again. The new rules will be released on November 5th at community meeting. The new rule will state that  explicitly that residents acting under the authority of neighborhood watch may not carry a firearm or pursue someone they deem suspicious. "Neighborhood watch was always intended to be a program where you observe what is going on and report it to police. In light of everything that has gone on, that's what we're really going to go back and push. That's what this program is and that's all it is," said a spokeswoman for the Sanford Police Department. George Zimmerman, was acquitted in July of the February 2012 death of Martin.The prosecution accused him of racially profiling Martin, a high school student visiting from Miami, and then pursuing, confronting and shooting him.The jury considered Zimmerman's self-defense claim in light of Florida's Stand Your Ground law, which rescinded the duty of citizens to try to retreat from a confrontation. That's part of the reason he was acquitted because of his claim of self-defense.

Teacher found dead outside U.S. high school; student in custody

A 14-year-old student at a high school in Boston, Massachusetts, was in custody on Wednesday after police found the body of a teacher in the woods behind the school overnight. Police started an investigation on Tuesday night after getting phone calls that the student custody had not returned home yet and that the teacher also had not gotten home yet, and she wasn't answering her cell phone.Police then found the body of Colleen Ritzer, 24, a teacher at Danvers High School, in the woods after discovering blood in a second-floor bathroom. The police are saying she is an apparent to being a homicide victim. All public schools in Danver's are closed today but they have no reason to believe there is any other suspects and that anyone else is in danger.

Kangaroo Shuts down Airport

A kangaroo shut down part of the Melbourne Airport in Sydney, Australia on Wednesday when it some hopped into a terminal and then into a pharmacy, airport officials said. The people in the pharamacy alerted Austrialian authorties and they were then forced to shut down the terminal so they could tranquilize the animal. They dont know how the animal got in the airport, but an airport official did say its not unusuasl to see a kangaroo in the parking a lot. The kangaroo is now in the hands of veternarians because he was severly stressed and had done damage to his teeth. He is now resting and they have volunteers watching him closely.

New Arrest made in the Steubenville Rape Case

A new arrest was made on Monday in the Steubenville rape case, the person arrested was a school employee. He was arrested on charges that he hindered in the investigation of the rape of a drunk teenage girl. The rape was by two High School football players who have already been convicted. The reason this spread the nation because of a video that was posted of the football players assaulting the 16-year-old girl. The man arrested on Monday William Rhinaman, 53, has been indicted for perjury, obstruction with justice and tampering with evidence charges. He was also indicted for obstructing official business, a misdemeanor. Rhinaman was was the first indictment in the investigation if other people committed these crimes by hindering the rape case. The two football players were convicted last March and are in a juvenile detention facility, they can be held to their 21. They also are both required to register as juvenile sex offenders.

Kitten Refuses to let go of Pizza

An adorable kitten last week was caught red pawed but it's owner, Chris Drago when he shot a short video of his cute kittens stealing his pizza. Baby Girl, the 6 month old rescue kitten stole a piece away from Drago's wife when she wasn't looking for just a second. That's when he got the camera and got the video of his kitten absoultey not letting go while also growling at him. As they kept calling for Baby Girl to drop the kitten hissed, growled, and even clawed while still keeping the death grip on the pizza she had stole. According to Drago she had already stolen a McDonalds hamburger a month ago. He ended this with saying "She's harmless and wouldnt hurt you, and she's adorable when she does it." 9th Grade Football Star Already Commits to LSU

Sunday night Dylan Moses, a ninth grader at University Lab High in Baton Rouge, Louisiana committed to play at the University of LSU. It was seen on twitter that he tweeted “Just committed to LSU #GeaxTigers!!” Except it's actually Geaux Tigers but there's still plenty of time to work that out. The 6 foot 1, 215-pound athlete already runs 4.46 40, he had already been looked at by Alabama as an 8th grader, and had been offered a scholarship last February little bit after their recent national championship. This kid is already regarded as the top recruit in the class of 2017 and he picked LSU over  Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Ole Miss, Nebraska, UCLA and Texas. Now all the coaches of those schools have plenty of time to persuade the kid to recommit from LSU. Needless to say though this young man committed to a college a little early.

Mom Charged in Slayings of Daughter, and Autistic Son

42 year old Marilyn Edge has been charged with killing her 13 year old daughter and 9 year old autistic son in California. This comes after she had lost custody of the children last Wednesday and the judge had ordered the kids to go back to Georgia with their father. Marilyn claims the children were poisoned but yet she was charged Monday on two a counts of murder with special circumstances. The children were found dead in a Santa Ana hotel room. Mark Edge was informed on Sunday about this and was taken to a nearby hospital for duress. If Marilyn Edge is convicted she could be eligible for the death penalty. This is important to know about this because this is what is wrong with our society today. This lady loses custody and instead of giving her kids up to her husband she kills them. At least let your kids be happy and still be alive, its just ridiculous how something like this can happen.

Wildfire Scorches More Than 3,700 Acres

On Sunday a wildfire in the hills east of San Francisco Bay burned about 3,700 acres by late Monday. This has now become latest of the California fires this summer. They don't really know when the fire will be completely put out, but they did say it may clear up by Wednesday. They do have about 700 firefighters state and local working on putting it out with 85 engines 30 fire crews and 2 air tankers. The fire was also very close to a Pacific Gas line, so they worked furiously to push that back first, while the fire kept spreading during that. They also have evacuated 11,000 people from their homes in danger of this fire. This is important because this puts a lot of lives in danger and really destroys California every summer when they have these fires. There are also a lot of firefighters working on putting this out, putting themselves in danger. The real importance of this is lives and the destruction it does, this fire needs to stop.

Marijuana Use On The Rise

Over the years the National Survey on Drug use and Health found that the percent of Americans 12 and up who use marijuana is up from 5.8% in 2007 to 7.3% in 2013. Some think it is up because America is taking a softer stance on marijuana. Now the Justice Department just announced it will not challenge challenge states that have legalized marijuana. Before this users in legalized could still face prosecution. Also the use illicit drugs have gone up over the years, right now we're at 9.2% of the population use illicit drugs. Which is nearly 24 million Americans are using these drugs and marijuana is the most used out of all the illicit drugs. This is all very important to know because we don't want these number going up, like they are. The public needs to be aware that this many people are using these drugs and we need to stop this from going up. It also is important because it shows how many people are getting into drugs now especially teens, because this is all us of 12 and up. I think it's important for people to be aware of this and know it has to be stopped and start to decline instead of rise.
